Frequently Asked
Questions

Before starting treatment, it’s important to know the answers to your questions. Review our frequently asked questions to see how Laser Hair Removal can benefit you!

How does laser hair removal work?

During treatment, our FDA-approved Astanza ReSmooth laser safely sends pulses of light energy through your skin. The light targets the melanin in your hair follicles where they are absorbed, effectively destroying the rooth that produces hair growth. Laser hair removal is only active on hairs in their active growth phase which is why multiple treatment sessions are needed for each patient. For a more detailed answer, visit our laser hair removal overview page.

Who can be treated with laser hair removal?

Whether you’re male or female, tanned or not, Dr. Mario Gomez MD PA can treat patients of all skin types, genders, and hair colors. Our laser is designed to perform safe treatments for all patients and delivers superior results no matter how dark your skin type is or how fair your hair color is.

For safety reasons, pregnant women should postpone their laser hair removal treatments until after their pregnancy.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?

The average patient is recommended to undergo a minimum of 6 treatment sessions to achieve long-lasting results. Each session will reduce hair growth and cause hair thinning. Patients should see at least 50% hair reduction after 6 sessions while others may require up to 12 depending on various factors like how quickly your body repairs damaged hair follicles, how thick your hair is, and more. In order to target hairs during their active growth phase, some patients may require more treatments.

What areas of the body can I treat with laser hair removal?

All parts of the body can be safely treated with laser hair removal. Our Astanza ReSmooth laser features an interchangeable handpiece that features a small precision tip and an industry-leading large 9.1 cm² spot size tip for fast and accurate treatment on both large and small areas of the body. The most common areas of treatment are the back, hands, legs, arms, chest, armpits, mustache, bikini area, and genitals.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Laser hair removal is an extremely quick procedure that is very tolerable. Our Astanza ReSmooth laser also features an integrated contact cooling tip to help alleviate your skin before each laser pulse and throughout each treatment.

Are there any risks to laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a very safe procedure with no downtime. Dr. Mario Gomez MD PA uses the safest protocols and most advanced laser technology to give your skin the best treatment and results possible. Patients may experience slight swelling, redness, or itchiness of the skin following a treatment. These side effects will subside after a few hours and can be relieved with aloe vera gel.
